Taking Care of Children from Poor and Crisis Families

Mostly in all regional Caritas organizations, there are social creative centers. Children from poor and crisis families can visit them after school. In addition to traditional help for children (clothes, footwear, free lunches) each organization worked out its own unique forms and methods of work with such children. For example in Ternopil there are art studio, macrame club, sport club, courses of foreign languages and computer literacy.

Other way of work in this sphere is social escort of such children, which means not only providing of humanitarian aid, but also organizing of cultural activities (visiting of museums, theaters, concerts, excursions). Children also receive consultations from professional psychologists. Special attention is paid for improving of relations between parents and children.

Every year Caritas organizes charitable actions ‘School Bag’ (before the new school year), for St. Nicholas Day, Christmas and Easter. Orphans and children from crisis families receive presents, supplies for school, etc.

Every summer leisure is organized for children-orphans, and those from poor families and families with many children. Thanks to this project during school vacations children are not without care and have normal rest. They receive free lunches, participate in sport competitions and educations activities, and go to excursions. Teachers-volunteers who have experience of work with such children work in these groups.

All this work is also a prevention activity against children’s homelessness.
