‛We help people fine their calling in life“ 

On 30 July 2010, thanks to the project Psycho-Social Support for Children of Migrant Labourers, workers of Caritas Ivano-Frankivs’k held a meeting entitled The Value of Human Life for ten children whose parents work abroad.  Participants of the meeting discussed how to plan their personal lives.

AIDS2010 was held in Vienna on 18-23 July.  The conference drew 25 thousand educators, government workers, healthcare workers, volunteers, representatives from advocacy groups and people infected with HIV/AIDS.   Among the participants was a delegation from Caritas

‛My heart is surely made of stone“ 

Yevdokiya Mykolayivna had a difficult fate.  Despite this she is not sad and doesn’t feel sorry for herself.  All her misfortune—the Holodomor of 1932-33, losing her family, surviving the war, enduring hard labour under the Third Reich, etc., she learned to accept with humility.  Today she is grateful to the workers of Caritas Ukraine for the attention they devote to her, their assistance and dedication. 

‛A child cannot be forced to pray“ 

By working in the social sphere, Caritas Kyiv is constantly uncovering new ‛diseases“ lurking in society which need to be treated: the prejudices of law enforcement, the indifference of parents, the absence of professional and specialized social workers.  The Director of Caritas Kyiv, Father Taras Tyzhnyk explained how Christian principles and a professional approach helped him find the answers to burning questions.

Home care is not simply attending to a variety of needs among people who need support.  It is a particular ministry that serves the infirmed, elderly and HIV positive individuals.  Ol’ha Osadcha, Coordinator of the Home Care project for Caritas Kyiv shares how Home Care literally rejuvenates life, giving people hope and faith. 

The Regional Conference of Caritas Europe was held from 1-3 June in El Escorial, Spain.  The Regional Conference is the highest legislative organ in the Caritas organization on the European continent.  During the conference Father Erny Gillen was chosen President, Andrij Waskowycz—Vice President, as well as new executive board
